We play the music of the great, mostly American composers from the 1920s and into the 1960s – Rogers and Hart, Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong, and later Matt Dennis, Frank Loesser, Harold Arlen, Oscar Peterson, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Luis Bonfa and others. We respect the original compositions, while adding modern color, artistry and personalization. As Dale says, “Our interpretations are fairly straight because we like to preserve the harmony and rhythm of these great composers,” to which Bill adds “You are not likely to find us out on an unrecognizable, abstract excursion which too often satisfies only the soloist and adds nothing to the tune as a whole.”
The music you hear here is from one of two CDs, Studio Date (the trio with Paul Bergevin on drums/harmonica), and Mostly Vocal (the trio with Med Daugherty on drums and two vocals, Have You Met Ms. Jones and A Foggy Day; and the one and only Charsette doing Don’t Explain, When I Fall in Love, Why Doncha Do Right, and Cry Me a River).
Below is a large sample of the tunes we play. If tunes you like are not listed, chances are that we can include them anyway for your function. To hear a sample, click on the asterisked tune and allow time to load. |
